Vintage Stenciled Side Table
This vintage stenciled side table needed quite a bit of tender loving care. Read on to see the makeover.
It’s been a long time since I tackled a painted furniture project, and April is one of the best months in Texas, temperature-wise.
This vintage beauty has good bones, but the top needed some work. However, the bottom half is in surprisingly good shape. We also replaced most of the screws to strengthen the structural integrity.
Once all that work was done, it was time to paint.
Before moving on to the makeover, let’s huddle up to discuss furniture restoration.
I fell in love with the painted furniture movement because I save it from the landfill every time I repair, restore, and refurbish a piece. I breathe new life into it so that someone else can enjoy it.
It’s gratifying.
If you are new to furniture restoration, here are a few tips on what to look for when shopping for project pieces.
- Open and close all drawers or doors to check for sticking
- Check for odors such as cigarettes and pet
- Does it have visible cracks, broken legs, or anything else that needs repair
- Do you possess the skills to make repairs or know someone who does?
My best advice is to inspect any potential purchase with great scrutiny. There’s nothing worse than getting a dresser home only to find you can’t open the drawers or the bottoms need replacing.
I may or may not have violated all these rules at one time or another. (learn from my mistakes)
We are moving on to the vintage stenciled side table.
Vintage Stenciled Side Table Makeover
You might remember that I don’t love stenciling furniture.
See this post: Stenciling-When you want Boho but Wind up with Boo-Hoo
I swore I would not participate in stenciling ever again.
The tabletop required quite a bit of glue, and I was concerned about how it would look after painting.
After careful consideration, I decided to add a stencil.
A few years ago, the kind folks at Stencil Revolution sent me the HarmonyMandala stencil, and I’ve never had the right piece to use it on. Until now.
How do you feel about stenciling? Is it favored or forsaken?
I’m favoring it slightly.
