Creative Supply Chain Decorating Ideas

[ad_1]

Sharing is caring!

You just walked into your favorite store ready to purchase the perfect fabric for new pillows, and you are greeted with empty spindles. Welcome to supply chain shopping. Don’t fret; I’ve got a few creative supply chain decorating ideas up my sleeve, and I’m sharing them with you, dear reader.

Over the weekend, I visited my local Home Goods and Kirkland’s.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a depleted lighting section. It’s the same story in my local Jo-Ann’s fabric store; empty spindles and about half the usual selection.

I’ve heard stories of four to six-month wait times for kitchen appliances. 🙄

It’s tough out there, friends.

Is it possible we’ve gotten spoiled by having so many choices always being available? Perhaps.

If you’ve gone out shopping only to return home empty-handed and feeling frustrated, please don’t despair.

I have ideas.

Supply Chain Decorating Ideas

We can do this. Our ancestors created beautiful spaces with a fraction of our availability today.

We are going to have to get creative and think outside the box.

Some of my ideas may seem obvious to many of you.

I will assume that we don’t all know the same things, and hopefully, you’ll discover something valuable.

Idea #1 Buy Used

Purchased from Facebook Marketplace for $40.

Facebook Marketplace, Craig’s List, eBay, Garage Sales, Estate Sales; are our new best friends.

By purchasing gently used items, you will spend less and reduce the likelihood of items being sent to the landfill. Both of these are good things.

I’m sure you are familiar with the above suggestions, but I want to chat more about Facebook Marketplace.

I love FM for the following reasons:

  • it allows you to buy local
  • they now offer to ship
  • amazing deals
  • ease of payment
  • shop from home

Depending on where you live, there are some absolute steals available on FM. However, I’m consistently amazed by the deals my friends in other states find.

It was a great place to shop before, but now that they offer to ship, it’s a whole new ballgame. It’s great if you’re buying or selling.

Part of the beauty of purchasing on FM is if you don’t like it, you can always sell it again on FM.

One thing to look for is I have noticed there seem to be more shops selling merchandise. Be careful who you are purchasing from. I found a light fixture for $20, and when I messaged the owner, it turned out that the price was only good for a lot of 20.

No, thank you, sir.

Also, if you are listing furniture items, please, for the love of all things, include the measurements and take photos that show the entire item.

You are far more likely to receive a quick offer with good photos and save yourself from buyers messaging you at 2 am for measurements. (Lisa steps down from her soapbox)

Idea #2 Buy Local

If online shopping is not your thing, how about visiting local antique malls, flea markets, thrift stores, Habitat for Humanity, locally owned boutique-type stores.

If you enjoy the hunt, turn it into a game with friends. Set a dollar limit, say $50, and see who comes home with the best deal.

January and February are great months to shop second-hand stores because many people are decluttering.

I recommend writing down the measurements of specific spaces you may be shopping for. Take a small tape measure when you go because there’s nothing worse than hauling an end table home only to realize it’s not the correct size.

Idea #3 Reinvent what you have

I sanded the dated cherry stain on my grandmother's Dixie dresser. Reimaging your furniture is one of many creative supply chain decorating ideas.

My grandmother’s Dixie dresser was sanded to bare wood and sealed with hemp oil.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it, furniture is a lot like hair. When you think you need a new hairstyle, you need a color change.

Chances are you’re not unhappy with the style of your dining room set; you need a fresh color or stain.

You can change it!

If DIY is not in your wheelhouse, there are local people you can hire to transform your furniture for a fraction of the cost of new. So once again, you are supporting your local economy, and this makes you a superstar.

Now it’s your turn.

Now it’s your turn to share your creative supply chain decorating ideas with me. I would love to hear from you.
